State Road 234 resurfacing project continues near Ladoga

Monday, July 6, 2020

CRAWFORDSVILLE – The State Road 234 resurfacing project is continuing in Montgomery County, the Indiana Department of Transportation has announced.

The contractor schedule has changed due to weather issues. Milestone will complete a cold in-place recycle under the three remaining separate road closures of three days with the estimated times:

-- July 6-8 closed from U.S. 231 to County Road 250 East

-- July 9-11 closed from County Road 250 East to the west town limits of Ladoga

-- July 12-14 closed from the east town limits of Ladoga to the Big Raccoon Creek Bridge.

Access will be maintained for homes and businesses, as well as for trash collection and mail delivery.

A cold in-place recycle treatment, a type of resurface similar to a full-depth reclamation, is an environmentally friendly method of removing and reusing the existing asphalt surface. It involves grinding off the top two to five inches of the existing asphalt surface and mixing the crushed asphalt with an asphalt recycling agent, and placing it back down with a paver. This results in a much stronger, stable base for the new road. It also results in less hauling away of materials

This contract also includes State Road 234 from Kingman east to the Fountain/Montgomery County line which is completed. Plus, the section of U.S. 231 from State Road 32 in Crawfordsville to SR 234 is under way and work is scheduled to last through Aug. 6.

The contractor will then begin on or after Aug. 1 through Oct. 6 on U.S. 231 from SR 234 to U.S. 36.

Milestone Contractors L.P. was awarded the $11.9 million contract.
