Greencastle firefighter Jimmy Shaw scrambles to the scene of a car fire Wednesday morning. The Greencastle Fire Department was called to the parking lot off Indiana Street behind Castle Apartments a 8:03 a.m. and arrived at 8:07. The owner of the Chevrolet Impala told firefighters she walked out to her car and the windows were black, indicating a fire had already been burning. When she opened the door, the fire flared back up and she called 911. GFD had the fire out by 8:12 a.m. and returned to station at 8:40 a.m. The vehicle next to the car suffered minor damage with some slight paint discoloration. The first car was a complete loss in the incident. Nearly all contents of the car, including some paperwork and clothes, were lost. The woman had her grandmother’s Bible in the car, and it was saved, albeit in two pieces and with a burned cover.
