Ronald J. Harney

Ronald J. Harney, 77, of Rockville, passed away June 25, 2020, at Union Hospital, Terre Haute.

Born June 5, 1943, in Marion County, he was the son of Jay Harney and Wilna Fern Wirth.

As a child, he lived in a cabin in Turkey Run State Park and enjoyed playing and exploring.

Ron had his own business, Ron’s Tree Service. He contracted out to REMC for 30 years, working in Parke County and parts of Vermillion, Vigo, Fountain, Montgomery, Putnam and Clay counties. He then went to Rose Brothers and drove a semi across the country for 10 years, seeing a lot of the U.S.A. He then worked for the Parke County Highway Department for one year.

He married Lillie (Gregg) Harney on Aug. 19, 1961, and she survives.

He is also survived by two sons, Allen Harney and Dallas (Becky) Harney; four grandchildren, Brittany, Cody, Dakota and Mason; one very special great-granddaughter, Kenley Marie Harney; three half-grandchldren, Zoi, Kendal and Kaisley Poynter, who are descendants of Nancy Hanks, the mother of Abraham Lincoln.

A remembrance of life will be held in 2021. Flowers, if so desired, may be sent to Rose Brothers, 6809 E. U.S. 136, Rockville, IN 47872. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dementia Society of America in Ron’s name.
