PLAINFIELD — York Automotive Group has added a Hendricks County dealership to its four existing businesses in Greencastle, Brazil and Crawfordsville.

The York family has entered an agreement to purchase Westgate Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram and turn it into York Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Plainfield.

The first official day of ownership is Tuesday.

The York family has maintained a dealership in Greencastle since 1987, when the late Bob York opened York Pontiac Oldsmobile GMC Truck. The York Automotive Group was established in 2000 with the addition of the Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep franchises in Crawfordsville.

Today, York Automotive, under the direction of brothers Rob and Nick York, operates York Chevrolet Buick GMC in Greencastle, in addition to another General Motors dealership — York Chevrolet Buick — in Brazil as well as York Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Brazil and York Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat in Crawfordsville. At one time, York also operated a Chrysler-Jeep dealership in Greencastle.

Rob York told the Banner Graphic the deal is exciting in that it gives the company a presence in Plainfield, where Nick York resides.

“It gives us a great opportunity in a community that Nick and his wife Kaye have been involved in for many, many years,” Rob York said. “It gives us another opportunity to be part of another market and one that Nick and Kaye live in and it’s a good way to expand.”

Speaking to Vigo County radio station WVIG, former Westgate President Teri Catterson Kraft said she chose to sell to the Yorks because it was important to keep the dealership locally owned. She also said the deal does not include sister dealership Eastgate Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram, which she co-owns with her sister.

Chrysler had already given the sale conditional approval before the terms were finalized.
