Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated four recent property-damage crashes.

• At 4:25 p.m. on Saturday, Lonnie McGill, 50, Indianapolis, was southeast bound on County Road 400 West, coming into a curve onto County Road 100 North in a 20017 International 4300 registered to Enterprise Leasing Co. Heather Earls, 38, Greencastle, was westbound on 100 North in a 2004 Buick Rendezvous.

McGill told Deputy Tanner Brown he saw Earls’ vehicle approaching and it was turning wide in the curve, hitting his vehicle.

Earls said she saw the other vehicle and tried stopping but the two made contact.

Tire tracks at the scene indicated Earls was left of center.

Brown estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 3:49 p.m. on Friday, James H. Kelley II, 34, Terre Haute, was traveling on U.S. 40 in a 2011 Chevrolet HHR. Brian L. Batchelor, 46, Brazil, was stopped on U.S. 40 in a 2019 Ford F350 registered to CSX Transportation, waiting for traffic in front of him.

Kelley told Deputy Randy Patrick he did not leave himself enough time to stop, rear-ending the CSX truck.

Kelley’s vehicle sustained substantial front-end damage and was towed from the scene.

Patrick estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 5:01 p.m. on Thursday, Amanda R. Socolofsky, 45, Fishers, was turning south onto County Road 525 West from County Road 1100 South in a 2013 Infiniti JX35. Socolofsky told Deputy Jeffery Freeman she looked both directions and did not see a northbound vehicle.

Steven A. Squire, 30, Bowling Green, was northbound in a 2019 Dodge Ram. Socolofsky entered the road in front of him. Squire attempted to avoid the collision by driving off the road into a field. However, Socolofsky’s car still suffered moderate front passenger side damage, while Squire’s vehicle sustained moderate passenger-side damage to both doors.

Both vehicles were driven from the scene. Freeman estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 2:56 p.m. on Thursday, Rebecca S. Aaron, 63, Reelsville, was sitting at the west entry of South Putnam High School off of U.S. 231 in a 2014 school bus registered to South Putnam School Corp. Caleb D. Evens, 23, Plainfield, was behind her in a 2009 Kia Optima.

Aaron told Deputy Josh Deal that as she was waiting to turn onto 231, she realized she had left something at the bus garage. Not realizing Evens was behind her, she began to back up, causing damage to the car.

Damage was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.
