CRAWFORDSVILLE — North Putnam’s girls’ golf team opened its season on Saturday by playing in the Southmont Invitational.

“Though I don’t yet know where we placed as far as team scores, I think the girls played pretty well,” North coach Earl Hall said.

Ashley Lawless (102) and Brittany Bonifacius (104) recorded their best career scores for 18 holes.

“Haylee Greene (110) struggled a bit more than expected but her demeanor and constant praise for her teammates only solidified her place as a leader on this team,” Hall said. “Allie Angermeier (128) and Gabbi Simonson (128) both showed their mettle as they each participated in their very first 18-hole match.“

Hall thought the young team did well but has some things to work on.

“The ladies played with patience and poise on what turned out to be a toasty day in the sun,” he said. “Putting and chipping will need to improve but first time out, those two areas usually show the most rust. Also the greens at CCC are usually fast and Saturday was no exception.”
