Charles Howard Amers

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Charles Howard Amers of Seymour on Friday, Aug. 14, 2020, at the age of 85 years.

Charles was born in Terre Haute to the late George and Etta (Hinote) Amers.

Charles lived a long and productive life. He graduated from Greencastle High School while living on his own and working four jobs. After graduation, Charles proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1954-57.

Upon returning from the military, Charles worked at IBM in the computer manufacturing room until his retirement.

Charles was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He had a passion for reading and bowling, was an avid IU fan and loved spending time with his family.

Charles was a member of the Sertoma for many years and enjoyed delivering gifts to kids each Christmas.

Charles will be lovingly remembered by his children Richard (Sherri) Amers and Michael (Sandy) Amers; his grandchildren Ricky, Sammi, Hope and Kyle; several great-grandchildren; his brothers William Amers and Richard Amers; and his sister Beverly Joanne DeWeese.

He was predeceased by his parents and his brother John Amers.

Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Dan DeFriece officiating. Charles will be laid to rest at the Madison Veterans Cemetery in Madison at a later date. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Calvary Baptist Church on Tuesday from 5 p.m. until time of service. A flag and “Taps” presentation will follow the service to honor Charles' years of service and dedication to our country.
