Neva Belle York

Neva Belle York, 99, of Greencastle, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2020, at Asbury Towers.

Neva was born in Auburn, Ill., on Aug. 20, 1921, the daughter of William Asher and Clara (Landers) Defries.

Mrs. York was a member of Greencastle Church of the Nazarene. Over the years she had worked for Castle Craft Jewelry, Mallory’s and DePauw University.

Survivors include her two sons, Theron Craig York and Timothy Ray York (wife Cynthia), four grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Theron Robert York; a brother, Clarence Asher Defries; and four sisters, Vivian Dickerson, Juanita Poynter, Elizabeth Clark and LaVonne Strange.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2 at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home with Pastor Todd Stepp officiating. Burial will follow in Brick Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday.
