DePauw reports six COVID-19 cases on campus

Monday, August 31, 2020

There have been six reported cases of COVID-19 in the DePauw University community, according to statistics released by the university on Monday.

All six positive cases were from tests issued on Sunday. The university has issued 746 tests since students began returning to campus early last week.

DePauw has also had eight positive test results of students prior to their return to campus. Students whose first test result indicates they tested positive for the virus that causes COVID-19 may not come to campus without express permission.

A total of 895 pre-matriculation tests have been issued.

Elsewhere in the community, numbers continue to increase but not at the rate they were early in August.

The Indiana State Department of Health announced Monday that Putnam County has reached 433 cases, an increase of six cases since local officials reported 427 on Friday.

Meanwhile, 172 of the county’s cases have been among offenders at Putnamville Correctional Facility, according to information from the Indiana Department of Correction. This includes 36 inmates who have recovered.

Putnamville has also had 20 staff members test positive, though it is unclear how many of these reside in Putnam County.

One place where numbers are holding firm is in local schools. No new cases have been reported since the first week of school, when Cloverdale reported three and North Putnam reported one.
