Three new COVID-19 deaths reported in last week

While the number of local positive cases continues to increase incrementally, three new COVID-19 deaths have been reported in Putnam County in recent days.

Two new COVID-19 deaths, occurring on Sept. 15 and 16, were reported by the Indiana State Department of Health early in the week. Then on Thursday, another death for Sept. 16 was reported.

These mark the first confirmed coronavirus deaths of Putnam County residents since May 30 and bring the total number of local deaths from the pandemic to 11.

Meanwhile, the county-wide number of people who have tested positive for coronavirus since March now stands at 542, an increase of 33 since last Thursday.

At Putnamville Correctional Facility, there have now been 210 offenders who have tested positive, an increase of 10 in the last week. Of these, 199 are listed as having recovered. Meanwhile, 34 offenders are in isolation because they either have tested positive or have been exposed. Another 48 are in quarantine for possible exposure.

Meanwhile, a total of 29 Putnamville staff members have tested positive and 19 have recovered.

All Putnam County schools have now had at least one positive case, with Greencastle Schools reporting its first case last weekend.

Among the other schools, Cloverdale has reported four cases, with three at North Putnam and two at South Putnam.

DePauw University is reporting 10 active cases on campus, with 46 other community members in quarantine.

A total of 1,234 tests have been issued since on campus, with 16 positives, 1,071 negatives and 53 others deemed invalid.
