FRIDAY FOOTBALL: No intra-county matchups on grid schedule tonight
For only the second time this season, all four Putnam County teams will be playing out-of-county opponents tonight.
South Putnam can win the “Green Division” title of the Western Indiana Conference tonight with a win at West Vigo. A win would put the Eagles at 4-0, and they have beaten both teams (Brown County and North Putnam) who could potentially tie them.
Greencastle will look to break out of its unlucky streak of four straight losses, the last three of which have come by a total of nine points. A pair of one-point losses is included in that run.
North Putnam will look to keep its momentum going from last week’s first victory in a matchup of two 1-4 teams at Cascade.
Cloverdale, meanwhile, will be looking to pick up its first win as the Clovers host also-winless Riverton Parke.
Odds and ends
• In a matchup last week of two former Putnam County head coaches, Frontier (coached by Troy Burgess) defeated Traders Point Christian (coached by Sam Carnes) by a 32-12 margin.
• Sullivan won 14-13 at South Vermillion last week in overtime.
The game was tied at 7-7 going into the extra period. South Vermillion scored first but did not get the conversion, and Sullivan was able to score a touchdown and kick the extra point to hand the Wildcats their first loss.
The Wildcats will meet undefeated Parke Heritage tonight for the Wabash River Conference championship.
