Monday, September 28, 2020

With 42 new cases reported since Thursday, Putnam County has now had 584 cases of COVID-19 reported since the pandemic began in March.

Despite the increase, however, the county’s seven-day positivity rate on tests remains at relatively low rate of 5.3 percent, according to the Indiana State Department of Health.

The numbers for the county include any new cases at Putnamville Correctional Facility, which has not reported any new cases since Thursday, with 210 confirmed cases among inmate, 199 of whom have recovered. Eight offenders remain in isolation, while 37 others are in quarantine, according to Indiana Department of Correction information.

DePauw University was reporting seven active cases on campus as of Monday, a decrease of three from Thursday. Meanwhile, 56 other members of the DePauw community remained in quarantine for possible exposure.

At Putnam County’s four school corporations, the latest numbers indicate that Cloverdale Schools has reported four cases of COVID-19, with three at North Putnam, two at South Putnam and one at Greencastle.

  • We have had 42 new cases since Thursday yet Putnamville State Farm has not reported any new cases since Thursday. This sounds like Putnam County is hitting higher number cases than it ever has since the start of the Covid-19 issue.

  • Why do local businesses not enforce mask-wearing? Walmart has big signs at the doors saying masks are required but there are still quite a few people without them. If I came in without shoes or or a shirt (I'm a woman)I'd be asked to leave. It's a rule, whether you agree with it or not, and needs to be enforced if we are ever going to get through this. How many people have to get sick or die before you realize this is real, it's serious, and gee maybe science is right?

Unbiased - you could always shop at Kroger. Apparently they are very diligent about mask-wearing.

Or you could write a sternly-worded letter to the White Star Line...er, Walmart. :)

I don't think anyone denies that coronavirus is real.

There are a lot of questions (legitimately so) about how serious it is.

Maybe science is right... but which science?

The "science" they preach on the news?

The "science" coming from the CDC - which has obvious conflicts of interest?

The "science" coming in from all other parts of the globe that show a myriad of effective treatments (that often get derided in US media)?

The "science" that shows asymptomatic people do not transmit the virus, transmission rates in general are very low, masks are practically useless, and unless you are 70+ years of age or have multiple underlying health problems there is a 99+% chance of surviving coronavirus?

    All "science".
