Dorothy J. Cross

Dorothy J. Cross, 88, Greencastle, passed away Sept. 27, 2020.

She was born to Alvina and Gust Herr on July 20, 1932 in McIntosh County, N.D., and grew up in Aberdeen, S.D.

Dorothy attended nursing school, graduating in 1953 with her RN degree.

She married Jack Cross on Dec. 27, 1954, and he survives.

Jack and Dorothy owned Sunset Manor Nursing Home until 1985, and she served as the director of nursing there.

Dorothy was also a member and very involved with First Christian Church. She was the most giving mom, grandma, and person we have ever known.

In her spare time she loved to sew, knit, do crafts and color pictures. Dorothy was always thinking of everyone else.

Dorothy and Jack had four children, who also survive, Jayne Harwood, Brian Cross (Rita), Suzy Starr and Brad Cross (Michele); grandchildren Christopher, Cameron, Kelly, Tiffany, Lindsey, Vance and Carmen; 12 great-grandchildren, with another one on the way; and a brother, Ray Herr (Lil). She loved them all!

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister and son-in-law,Kevin.

Private services and interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery on Oct. 17.

In God’s arms she can gently rest. There are no goodbyes for us. Wherever you are, you will always be in our hearts.
