COLLEGE REPORT: Big game for Nichols at Marian
The Marian men's soccer developmental team picked up a dominant win in its home opener, romping Oakland City 5-0 on Monday.
The Knights poured in four goals in the first half, finishing the game with a flurry of shots as they improved to 3-1 with the win.
Marian started the match strong, putting together several strong attacking runs on the Oakland City net, as they aimed to take an early lead in their second meeting against the Mighty Oaks.
Greencastle graduate Seth Nichols was on the prowl early for Marian, as the sophomore scored the game-winning goal in the seventh minute of the match, taking the touch from Chad Williams to put away the early goal.
The Knights stayed aggressive and put away their second goal over a dozen minutes later, as Williams raced the left sideline and put away an unassisted goal, giving Marian a 2-0 lead.
Williams found the back of the net just minutes later, scoring in the 30th minute as he took the Abel Alvarez cross from the left goal line and put in his second goal of the night, giving Marian a 3-0 lead. Ethan Baker capped the first half scoring, as he put away an unassisted goal with 67 seconds to give Marian a 4-0 lead entering halftime.
