• At 1:55 p.m. on Wednesday, Kimberly R. Swisher, 38, Greencastle, was northbound on U.S. 231 south of County Road 850 North in a 2002 Dodge Ram.

Traffic in front of Swisher was slowing for a vehicle to turn into a driveway. Swisher told Deputy Brian Helmer her brakes were touchy and when she hit them, she lost control.

The vehicle crossed the southbound lanes and left the west side of the road and flipped several times.

Swisher and her two passengers, 18-year-old Blake Swisher and 14-year-old Grace Swisher, were all trapped in the truck initially. After they got out, they were transported to Putnam County Hospital by Putnam County EMS.

Swisher told Helmer they had recently purchased the vehicle and she was not sure if it had insurance yet. She was going to check with her insurance company.

The vehicle was towed from the scene. Helmer estimated damage at $25,000-$50,000.

• At 4:05 p.m. on Monday, Brianna L. Landum, 22, Knightsville, was northbound on State Road 243 approaching the bridge just south of Putnamville in a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe when she lost control.

The vehicle left the road and entered the ditch, where it rolled onto its side.

Landum told Deputy Kyle Lee she was not injured but he requested medics continue due to the impact. She later refused transport to the hospital and was taken home by family.

The vehicle was towed. Lee estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 7:23 a.m. on Monday, Melissa Miller, 42, Reelsville, was eastbound on County Road 1000 South in a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer, driving in heavy fog.

Miller told Deputy Tanner Brown she came up a hill and saw multiple deer in the road. She advised she panicked and turned into the ditch.

Miller and her passenger reported no injuries.

Brown estimated damage, which also included fencing, at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 11:40 p.m. on Saturday, Thomas W. Plemons, 59, Roachdale, was westbound on State Road 236 near County Road 50 West in a 2019 Ford F-250. Plemons’ vehicle left the road and traveled about 75 yards through a ditch, coming to rest in a pond.

Plemons told Deputy Jeffery Freeman he swerved to miss a deer and left the road.

While traveling through the ditch, the vehicle struck several trees. The passenger side was stuck in the pond, halfway submerged in water.

Plemons sustained a minor head injury at the scene but signed a statement of release. He was, however, transported to Putnam County Hospital by the deputy. Plemons provided a portable breath test reading of .142 alcohol concentration equivalent and then a .184 ACE on the certified blood test.

Plemons was lodged at the Putnam County Jail at 2:53 a.m. Sunday for driving while intoxicated.

The truck was removed from the pond and towed by Adams Towing.
