Culvert Creation

Thursday, October 15, 2020
South Jackson Street is open again on Greencastle’s southwest side after several weeks of construction and local detours. The extensive culvert work by DePauw University south of Hanna Street resulted in a storm sewer being installed beneath South Jackson in a project that saw its share of anomalies, including encountering large sections of limestone and uncovering what local officials believe was a bridge for the old Interurban train that once ran through Greencastle. It had been pushed over and covered with dirt, Greencastle Mayor Bill Dory said.

  • I seriously thought this was going to be an underground tunnel to keep DePauw foot traffic off of the street between campus and Blackstock. But I guess this would have made too much sense.
