Greencastle virtual music parties begin Wednesday night
The Greencastle Virtual Music Festival launches its fall/winter 2020-21 season of “virtual music parties” this Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 7:30 p.m., with a multi-genre online program featuring pianist Claude Cymerman, cellist Eric Edberg, poet Joe Heithaus, singer/songwriter Bobbie Lancaster and pianist/composer Cathie Malach.
The now-online festival, which began as the Greencastle Summer Music Festival in 2005, is dedicated to “bringing a community together with friends making music for friends.”
Edberg, who will host these online events, says, “We are all very enthusiastic about the opportunity to combine an online concert with real-time discussion with the performers and audience member interaction. While a Zoom meeting isn’t the same as being together physically, it does allow us to watch the concert together and have conversation with the performers and each other after. Anything we can do to create community and connection and reduce loneliness, and give the many musicians in the area an opportunity to share their art, we want to do.”
The series will continue at least through the end of December, with programs debuting each Wednesday on Facebook and YouTube.
The concerts are made possible by the Putnam County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church, the Greencastle Summer Music Festival family of donors, the Inn at DePauw and an endowment at the Putnam County Community Foundation.
Audience members can watch and listen on Facebook, Youtube, or the festival website at any time once the concerts have debuted.
During the weekly Wednesday 7:30 p.m. premiere, those who wish can connect with Edberg, the performers and each other in a Zoom meeting.
