Murder suspect taken into custody during I-70 traffic stop
MONROVIA -- A Phoenix, Ariz., murder suspect was arrested Friday afternoon after Indiana State Police troopers conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 70 eastbound near the 60-mile marker, on a silver Dodge Charger.
A passenger in the Charger was identified as Darrence D. Barksdale of Phoenix, Ariz.
Barksdale had an active warrant out of Arizona for murder, State Police said.
He was taken into custody without incident about 4:30 p.m. Friday and was transported to the Hendricks County Jail at Danville, where he will be extradited to Arizona on the active warrant.
Barksdale may have been headed for Michigan, where he has a lengthy criminal record. According to Michigan State Prison records, Barksdale has served time for a 2013 felony firearms case, along with a conviction for maintaining a drug house and a conviction for manufacturing and delivery of narcotics.
Assisting agencies included U.S. Marshals, Indiana State Police Aviation, Indiana State Police Emergency Response Team and several troopers from the Putnamville State Police Post.
