County Jail

Ten people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Sunday

• At 12:21 a.m. Keith E. Spurgeon, 29, Indianapolis, was lodged at the jail for domestic battery, disorderly conduct and public intoxication.

Saturday

• At 10:03 p.m. Bryan G. Flores, 44, Camby, was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated.

• At 3:37 a.m. Travis G. Mundy, 25, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for driving while intoxicated.

Friday

• At 6:12 p.m. Michael T. Stansel, 57, Cloverdale, was booked in for criminal mischief.

• At 3:44 p.m. Cyle A. Duncan, 36, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail on a Parke County warrant and for unlawful possession of a syringe and possession of paraphernalia with a prior conviction.

• At 6:24 a.m. David R. McCullough, 38, Greencastle, was taken into custody for battery and public intoxication.

• At 4:12 a.m. Dayton R. Land, 23, Coatesville, was housed at the jail for battery against a public safety officer, battery, disorderly conduct and public intoxication.

• At 3:57 a.m. Trevor D. Ferrand, 22, Greencastle, was booked in for battery and public intoxication.

Thursday

• At 9:51 p.m. Melissa D. Clark, 48, Terre Haute, was lodged at the jail for driving with an ACE of .15 or more, driving while intoxicated, possession of a controlled substance and driving with a suspended license.

City Police

Two recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

• At 2:17 p.m. Thursday, James Johnson, 44, Bloomington, was arrested by Officer Nick Eastham for theft.

Lodged in the Putnam County Jail, Johnson was arrested at the Walmart store for allegedly stealing $281.44 in merchandise by fraudulently using the U-scan aisle.

Johnson reportedly scanned alcohol, a backpack, clothing and a phone case by using the same $1.07 UPC.

Store officials noticed Johnson reportedly coming and going a number of times before he was detained.

• At 9:07 p.m. Saturday, Ebony Hendrickson, 21, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Luke Brown.

Taken into custody on Avenue D, Hendrickson was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on charges of criminal trespass and resisting law enforcement.

A pair of property-damage accidents were reported by city officers.

• At 10:48 p.m. Friday, a three-vehicle mishap was reported on Bloomington Street near Veterans Memorial Highway.

All three drivers told Officer Zach Rhine that a fourth vehicle stopped completely due a flashing signal caused by a traffic light malfunction.

Tresa Baker, 58, Reelsville, stopped her 2012 Ford Escape, while Jackie Scott, 44, Cloverdale stopped a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox, which was then rear-ended by a 2009 Chrysler Town & Country van, driven by Airica Lambert, 26, Greencastle, resulting in a chain-reaction accident.

Total damage was estimated at $10,000-$25,000 by Officer Rhine.

• At 8:08 p.m. Friday, a two-car mishap occurred on East Washington Street near Arlington Street.

Jennifer Scott, 19, was westbound, driving a 2011 Ford Fusion and stopped to go southbound on Arlington, Officer Angela Taylor said.

The Scott vehicle was then struck by a 2005 Mazda CX, driven by Eric Bauer, 20, High Point, N.C. Bauer said he did not realize that the car in front of him had stopped when the collision occurred.

Total damage in the accident was listed at $2,500-$5,000.

One recent citation was issued by city officers.

• At 8:10 p.m. Thursday, Brady Steadmon, 19, Greencastle, was ticketed by Capt. Charles Inman.

Stopped on 10th Street, Steadmon was cited for having no operator’s license.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated three recent property-damage crashes.

• At 6 a.m. on Sunday, Jeffry S. Elkins, 58, Port Charlotte, Fla., was traveling on County Road 125 West when he hit a deer.

Deputy Brian Helmer estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 6:18 a.m. on Friday, Christopher M. Barrow, 35, Brazil, was southbound on U.S. 231 from U.S. 40 in a 2008 Ford Escape when he hit a deer.

The vehicle was towed. Deputy Helmer estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 6:57 a.m. on Thursday, Ronald W. Goodin, 62, Coatesville, was westbound on U.S. 40 at Country Villa Road in a 2019 Ford F-350 when he hit a deer.

Deputy Randy Patrick estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.
