With COVID-19 restrictions preventing the normal gathering that is the DePauw Holiday Gala, organizers will do more of a “Best of” collection this year.

The School of Music has announced its upcoming virtual production of “The Best of the Holiday Gala,” set to stream at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12.

This video production will include memorable moments from the past three years. Cozy up with a warm blanket, some hot cocoa, and your loved ones to journey back through galas past to spread holiday cheer.

The Annual Holiday Gala features performances by the DePauw University Band, DePauw University Orchestra, DePauw Choirs and many other performers and ensembles with selections that celebrate holiday music from various traditions.

The video production will include classics such as “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” from “The Nutcracker Suite,” “Hanukkah, Festival of Lights” and “Carol of the Bells” – as well as some special guest performances and the Putnam County Festival Choir.

“The Holiday Gala is one of our favorite times of the year,” DePauw Director of Production Steven Linville said. “We love decorating the Green Center, welcoming the whole community, and having a chance to share with one another. While we cannot be together in person this year, we hope that this video production will spark thoughts of our past times together.

“We miss our guests in the Green Center and we look forward to better days when we can all gather together safely, share music, and make memories,” Linville concluded.

The public is invited to join with family around the computer, the television or the fire and enjoy a night of holiday and winter music.

“The Best of the Holiday Gala” will be streaming on YouTube.com/DePauwMusic at 7 p.m. Dec. 12. For additional information, contact musicmarketing@depauw.edu.
