Robert David Brannan, 78, Brazil, passed away peacefully on Friday, Dec. 4, 2020 at Exceptional Living Center in Brazil.

Bob was born on Jan. 21, 1942 in West Frankfort, Ill., the son of Leo Udine and Rita Kathryn (Stephens) Brannan, both of whom preceded him in death.

Bob graduated from Brazil High School in 1960, and began post-secondary education at Rose Polytechnic (Rose Hulman).

He decided to serve his country and left college to join the United States Army, serving in West Germany from 1961 to 1964. During his deployment, Bob volunteered to train and lead a small task force into communist-controlled East Germany to support Cold War intelligence gathering.

After honorably serving his country, Bob continued his education at Indiana State University and graduated with a degree in industrial management and supervision.

On Sept. 18, 1966, Bob married Mary Ann Walbring in Greencastle.

Bob’s business success led to eight state relocations as a family, and included multiple international assignments. Following his retirement in 2001, Bob and Mary Ann returned to Brazil and built their retirement home on part of the Brannan Family Farm.

He enjoyed volunteering for Dick Johnson Fire Department, traveling in the motorhome with Mary Ann, or “Sam,” as Bob so affectionately called her. Bob also enjoyed farming, hunting, riding his motorcycles, woodworking in his shop and repairing machinery for the farm.

Bob is survived by wife of 54 years, Mary Ann; their children, Beth and Mike (Cindy) Brannan; two grandsons, Greg and Matt; and two brothers, Jim (Karen) Brannan as well as Don (Debbie) Brannan.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9 at Moore Funeral Home in Brazil with Pastor Mark Grayless officiating and burial with military honors to follow at Bee Ridge Cemetery. The family will accept friends for visitation on Wednesday, from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
