Tuesday, December 15, 2020

Carolyn Sue “Susie” Knowling Hedrick, 79, of Crawfordsville, passed away Monday, Dec. 14, 2020 at St. Franciscan, Lafayette.

She was born Oct. 4, 1941 to Theodore Riddlen and Vera Mae Hancock Knowling at Detroit, Mich., later moving to the family farm in Roachdale.

She was a graduate of Roachdale High School in 1959.

She worked at Steel Industries Impex and retired after 38 years from Raybestos. She was a member of New Market Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher, and secretary of the Susan Harding Circle. She was also a member of Monday Night Craft Ladies and Prime Timers. She enjoyed, once a month, meeting with retired Raybestos ladies for lunch.

She loved her Sudoku, puzzles and doing her daily journaling that she has done most of her life. She loved looking forward to going camping every year with family and friends. She was an avid Dr. Phil fan; you did not call her during 4-5 p.m. when the show was airing. Most of all, she loved doing things with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, crocheting them blankets and making them face masks and special crafts.

On July 13, 1972, she married Robert Wayne Hedrick of Crawfordsville, who survives. They celebrated 48 years together.

She is also survived by three sons, David (Margaret) Bonebrake of Crawfordsville, Douglas (Debbie) Bonebrake of Ladoga and Daniel (Dawn) Bonebrake of Russellville; a daughter, Sheila (Tod Powers) Mullen of Ladoga; a stepson, Aaron Hedrick of Crawfordsville; 11 grandchildren, David (Kelsey), Morgan (Ashley), Evan (Ieshia), Maygan (Nathaniel Nichols), Racheal, Chad, Billy (Brittney), Adam, Danii (Reese), Brianna (Nick) and Kyle (Brittney); 12 great-grandchildren, Ryan, Hunter, Lilly, Kohen, Emma, Ayana, Joslynn, Chadwick, Stella, Llana, Daylen, River, Keagan and Jordan; two brothers, Tommy and Toby (Cathy) Knowling, both of Roachdale; two sisters, MaryAnn (Terry) McClure of Waveland and Bonnie (John) Storm of Roachdale; a brother-in-law, Tommy (Peggy) Hedrick; two sisters-in-law, Marilyn (Paul) Barker and Judy Knowling of Greencastle; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Teddy Knowling and Hobert Knowling; and an infant sister, Cindy Lou Knowling.

Visitation will be at Sanders Priebe Funeral Care, 315 S. Washington St., Crawfordsville, on Saturday, Jan. 9 from 11 a.m. until the time of memorial service at 1 p.m. with pastors Todd Randles and Brian Holt officiating. Burial will follow at Blakesburg Cemetery. Social distancing is expected and masks are required.

The memorial service will be livesteamed and recorded, which can be viewed on Carolyn’s obituary page at www.sandersfuneralcare.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to New Market Baptist Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 87, New Market, IN 47965.
