Rep. Beau Baird to serve on Ways and Means, key committees

Monday, December 21, 2020

District 44 State Rep. Beau Baird (R-Greencastle) has been appointed to three Indiana House standing committees including Ways and Means, where he will play a key role in enacting the state’s next biennial budget.

“Serving on the Ways and Means will be a heavy lift given the tight budget ahead, but I am up for the challenge,” Baird said. “In this uncertain time, it’s important to fund essential services and maintain healthy reserves while passing a responsibly balanced budget.”

Baird was reappointed to the Agriculture and Rural Development and Environmental Affairs committees. In 2019, he authored a law ensuring herbicide-resistant super weeds, which require expensive specialized treatment plans, are identified and eradicated quickly, saving the state and farmers money.

Baird said he will continue working on policies that support Indiana’s agricultural industry, which contributes an estimated $31 billion to the state’s economy.

Baird represents House District 44, which includes all of Putnam County and portions of Clay, Morgan, Owen and Parke counties. House standing committees will meet throughout the legislative session, which is scheduled to kick off Jan. 4.
