Sydney is a senior at Greencastle and participates in two sports, soccer and basketball.

Banner Graphic: How important are sports to you, and what have you learned from them?

Sydney Doan: “Sports are extremely important to my lifestyle. It’s what my family is centered around and brings us together.”

BG: What other sports have you played?

SD: “I played volleyball in middle school and have played travel soccer all of my life.”

BG: What’s the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you in sports?

SD: “Last year, when we played North Putnam, I shot a three that hit the back support of the basket.”

BG: Do you have any certain rituals or superstitions you follow in sports?

SD: “Before a game, I always try to tell myself the goals that I have for myself before that particular game.”

BG: Do you have any favorite college or pro sports teams you follow?

SD: “My favorite college team is Wisconsin men’s basketball. They’ve struggled in the past but I think, this year, they’re going to be pretty good.”

BG: What else do you do at school besides things involving sports?

SD: “I’m involved with National Honor Society and Latin Club. Other than that, I focus on academics.”

BG: What do you like to do outside of school and sports?

SD: “I like to go watch basketball and the US Women’s National Team. They’re extremely good right now and I watch them to motivate myself to get up and go practice.”

BG: What are your favorites in movies, TV and music?

SD: “Currently, I love Criminal Minds and I’ve always watched Law and Order, SVU. My favorite movie is Avengers: Endgame and I listen to a lot of 2000s hits.”

BG: What is something you have never done before that you would like to do someday?

SD: “Skydiving, for sure.”

BG: What is your biggest fear?

SD: “Tight spaces. I am extremely claustrophobic.”

BG: What are your favorite and least favorite foods?

SD: “I like pizza and Mexican. I don’t like sushi though. And I hate pickles.”

BG: Do you have any pets?

SD: “I just got a new puppy named Remington, Remy for short, and he’s a ferocious little guy. I love him.”

BG: If your house were on fire, and all living things were already out, what is one thing you would go back and get?

SD: “I would get favorite blanket. I’ve had it for about 10 years and it’s soft and comfy.”

BG: If you were to describe your personality in one word, what would that word be and why?

SD: “Intense. I’m very passionate about everything that I do, so I appear to come off as harsh to people.”

BG: What has been your favorite place to visit?

SD: “I like to go to Panama City, Fla.”

BG: How important is support from your family and classmates to your success?

SD: “Very important. My family is a huge support system for me and whenever I have tough games, they always bring me up, especially when the coaches are really mad.”

BG: Describe your overall school experience, both academically and athletically.

SD: “It’s been a very good ride so far. I feel like I’ve been able to balance more things, especially being involved with National Honor Society. I’ve learned a lot of time management skills.”

BG: What are your plans for after high school, and what career are you headed toward?

SD: “I’m going to Franklin College to play soccer. I am majoring in biology and minoring chemistry to become a sports medicine doctor.”

BG: Is it difficult to keep up with your school work being an athlete?

SD: “No. Not really. Maybe at first, but once you learn how to handle everything, it’s fine.”

BG: Which particular classes and teachers have helped you the most in high school?

SD: “Mr. Hankee and pre-calculus last year. He really helped me, taught me a little bit more about time management and how to study the right way.

BG: After college, do you have plans to live somewhere in the mountains or on the beach, or do you want to live around here?

SD: “If I had to choose, I would live on the beach, but more realistically, I’m going to live in the city.”

BG: Do you think high school has gone fast, and are you going to miss it?

SD: “Yes, it has gone fast but no, I will not miss it.”
