Putnamville ISP post welcomes new probationary officers

PUTNAMVILLE -- Two new probationary officers have been assigned to the Indiana State Police post at Putnamville after recently graduating from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.

Troopers Matthew Rea and Spencer Brooks will begin their next phase of training, a three-month field training period, riding with veteran troopers. The purpose of this training is to put that received at the academy to practical application.

Upon completion of field training, the troopers will be assigned a state police patrol vehicle and begin solo patrol.

Rea and Brooks have completed over 1,200 hours of structured training in law enforcement techniques, as well as hands-on and scenario-based training at the academy. The curriculum included criminal law instruction, emergency vehicle operations, psychology, traffic law, crash investigation, self-defense, first responder and other general enforcement-related training.

Spencer Brooks

Rea is from Riley and is a homeschool graduate. He furthered his education by attending Ivy Tech where he received an associate degree in software development. Rea currently resides in Vigo County. His primary counties will be Putnam and Clay.

Brooks, a native of Sullivan, is a graduate of Sullivan High School and spent seven years as a police officer there. Brooks and his wife, Whitney, have one child and reside in Sullivan County. His primary counties will be Sullivan and Vigo.
