Ethan Batan and Luke Lovejoy

Join bluegrass duo Ethan Batan and Luke Lovejoy, jazz pianist/organist Steve Snyder, pianist May Phang and cellist Eric Edberg and pianist Albrecht von Gaudeker for an online multi-genre concert Wednesday at 7:30pm at http://gvmf.live.

The program is titled “On the Last Day of Christmas” and continues the Greencastle Virtual Music Festival’s series of weekly concerts that debut at each Wednesday evening at facebook.com/greencastlevirtualmusic and greencastlemusic.org, with a watch party on Zoom that audience members can join at http://gvmf.live.

“Jan. 6 is known in many Christian traditions as Epiphany, celebrating the arrival of the ‘three wise men,’ and for many marks the end of the Christmas season,” festival organizer and host Edberg said. “So in putting this program together, I thought it would be great to include Steve Snyder playing jazz arrangements of some Christmas carols, along with Ethan and Luke playing bluegrass, May Phang playing a Bach piece and Albrecht and I playing the beautiful Catalan folk tune ‘The Song of the Birds.’ We’ll finish with the electrifying version of ‘Do You Hear What I Hear’ that singer/pianist Jason Powell contributed to our Christmas concert.

“We’re doing everything we can to help people connect with each other even as we are physically isolated while we wait out the pandemic,” Edberg continued. “While each week’s program can be watched on your own at any time once it debuts, a growing community is connecting with each other on Zoom to watch together and talk with the performers and each other after. It’s the closest thing to being together in person that we have been able to create.”

The Greencastle Virtual Music Festival programs are made possible by the Greencastle Summer Music Festival family of donors and the GSMF endowment at the Putnam County Community Foundation, the Putnam County Convention and Visitors Bureau, the DePauw Performing Arts Series, and the Inn at DePauw.
