PCEMS to be on site as correctional staffers receive vaccine

Friday, January 8, 2021

On Friday morning, the Putnam County Commissioners approved a contract between Putnam County EMS and the Indiana Department of Correction.

PCEMS will be providing onsite emergency medical support while IDOC employees receive the COVID-19 vaccination. PCEMS will not be administering this vaccination.

This support will occur at Putnamville Correctional Facility on Saturday, Jan. 9, at no cost to the county. PCEMS will be reimbursed for any incurred cost by IDOC.

  • If the vaccine has been proven to be safe, why is onsite emergency medical support necessary? Is the risk of an adverse reaction from the vaccine greater than the risk associated with the virus itself? Shouldn't this be publicized so each individual can make an informed, intelligent decision for himself or herself?

  • Common sense tells one that anytime a shot or medication is given there can always be a reaction. Mainly because these vaccines will be given at the IDOC instead of a medical facility, then medical personnel need to be on hard.

  • Trust me the idoc has made sure it’s employees know the risks involved with the shot ...

  • Doesnt the prison have their own medical staff on hand?
