Durbin to discuss COVID and homelessness in Wednesday Community Conversation

Lea Durbin

There is much conversation about COVID in our county: How many positives, how many are in the hospital, how many deaths, where is the vaccine, when can we get our shot?

However, there is no obvious conversation about the homeless. Just how is COVID impacting this population in our county? There are reports of increased abuse in the home. There are job losses or an inability to work the job. How widespread then is the fear of eviction? What are some of the differences experienced here versus in an urban setting?

The public is invited to the next virtual Community Conversation on Wednesday, Jan. 13 to hear Lea Durbin discuss the status of the homeless and Beyond Homeless in Greencastle and Putnam County.

Durbin joined Beyond Homeless Inc. as the executive director in November 2019. Prior to joining Beyond Homeless, she led the corporate social responsibility and employee engagement programs for a global technology company and led a corporate non-profit whose mission was focused on at-risk youth and families.

This conversation will be on Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89397918903, starting at 7 p.m. The link will be interactive so participants will be able to ask their own questions of Durbin once her presentation is completed.

These Community Conversations are sponsored by the Greencastle League of Women Voters, the Putnam County Public Library and the Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce. The intent of these ongoing programs is to provide the community an opportunity to hear from and speak to government officials or those responsible for programs in this community.
