He was employed by Chrysler Automotive for many years. A dispatcher, EMT and volunteer firemen for the Lawrence Fire Department, he then went on to work for General Motors where he retired in 2007.

He was a loving Christian family man who enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He loved camping, raising animals, gardening, wood cutting, working outdoors and volunteering.

He was a member of the New Providence Baptist Church, where he started the New Providence Food Pantry in 1987 and stepped down in 2011 due to health concerns. He made a commitment to God that he would pay it forward after he once received help, and he did just that. His commitment to make a difference and help where saw a need was unwavering. The pantry fed more than 120 families and he went to great lengths to make sure the people of Putnam County were fed. Helping others was his passion.

His daughters, his wife and his grandchildren made many long-distance runs with him to pick up large trucks loads of food items whenever and wherever he could find opportunities, including his recent frequent runs for truckloads of dog food to make sure that even those families with pets were being helped. He will be loved and missed by many.

There will be a drive-through parade starting at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14 in the New Providence Cemetery for people to show their support and love for James and his family.
