Putnam County Community Foundation to begin sharing its story

Thirty-five years ago, an extraordinary group of committed citizens of Putnam County founded the Putnam County Community Foundation to “enrich the quality of life and strengthen community for this and future generations.”

As the executive director of the Community Foundation, I have the privilege to serve the multiple generations touched by our founders’ vision. In my daily work, I often reflect on whether they could have possibly envisioned what became of their hard work and service, a major philanthropic force in Indiana that now awards more than $1 million in grants and scholarships annually in Putnam County.

Through the Banner Graphic’s generosity, we have been afforded the opportunity to tell our stories and inform you of opportunities to support various causes and missions. To seek help when needed. And hopefully, provide some laughs, comfort and positivity to your day.

Every other week you will hear a different story from a member of our team. Fortunately, we have 35 years’ worth and counting. And sharing these stories is essential to us because our stories are your stories.

Every grant awarded to a nonprofit empowers its incredible team to carry out its respective mission that improves lives. Every scholarship awarded to a Putnam County student is an investment in their future, which helps them write the next chapter in their personal story. And every dollar donated is an investment in each Putnam County resident, who is living their story every single day and making our county an incredible place to call home.

To say 2020 was a challenging year would be a gross understatement. But each new year brings new opportunities for the Community Foundation to help our friends and neighbors, nonprofit partners and government agencies.

And in 2021, we will do just that. Continue to help. The Putnam County Relief Fund, which has awarded more than $93,000 for COVID-19 related needs, remains active and available to assist nonprofits and agencies working on the front lines during this pandemic.

Our Adult Careers Scholarship will, for the first time, address the growing educational needs of adult learners in Putnam County seeking new career pathways.

And our Community Grants Endowment, which grows every day with each dollar generously given, will once again accept applications to address needs and projects, which will help move our county forward when we can finally put this pandemic behind us.

I know the best is yet to come for Putnam County, and your community foundation is excited to continue playing a role in bringing our collective best to fruition. Each of our stories is still being written. And together, we will make sure it is a real page-turner.

The Putnam County Community Foundation (PCCF) works alongside individuals, businesses, and nonprofit organizations to build a stronger Putnam County. PCCF is home to more than 300 charitable funds and has awarded more than $16 million in grants and scholarships since its founding in 1985.
