VBL woman identified as victim in Saturday crash
A Van Bibber Lake woman has been identified as the victim in a fatal crash early Saturday morning in Monroe Township.
Driver Tori D. Nunn, 24, Greencastle, lost her life in the single-vehicle crash.
Putnam County Chief Deputy Coroner Todd Zeiner told the Banner Graphic that Nunn’s identity was confirmed through dental records during an autopsy with Dr. Roland Kohr at Terre Haute Regional Hospital on Saturday.
Police records indicate that at around 3 a.m., Nunn was westbound on County Road 500 North, east of Shortcut Road (25 West) in a pickup truck. A witness told police Nunn’s truck swerved to avoid a deer before losing control and crashing into a tree.
Zeiner reported that Nunn “died on impact of multiple blunt force injuries to the head and chest. We were able to determine through autopsy that she died prior to the fire that consumed the vehicle.”
Zeiner also said excessive speed as well as slick road conditions may have been contributing factors to the crash.
Deputy Derek Line is investigating the crash for the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from an Indiana State Police accident reconstructionist.
Firefighters from the Bainbridge and Greencastle fire departments extinguished the fire as well as extricated Nunn’s body.
