Phil and Janice Fry Friend of Extension Award recipients
At the recent virtual, joint annual meeting of the Putnam County Soil and Water Conservation District and Purdue Extension, Phil and Janice Fry of Roachdale were awarded the Friend of Extension Award.
The award which began in 2003 has annually highlighted either a person, couple or business that has had a broad, long-term impact for the advancement of Extension programming.
Both Phil and Janice have been Extension volunteers, providing ardent support for agriculture and natural resources, health and human sciences and 4-H youth development programs. Examples include serving in leadership of Extension affiliates such as the Putnam County Fair and 4-H Club Association and the Putnam 4-H Council, cooperating with Extension as the Area V director of the Indiana Beef Cattle Association, assisting with awards and volunteering to retinal scan 4-H livestock for identification purposes.
The Frys are a third-generation Roachdale farm family, who cultivate 300 acres of row crops and manage a 50-cow Shorthorn cattle herd. They were named the 2016 Farm Family of the Year during Ag Day that year.
Plaques representing the 18 years of Friend of Extension Award recipients hang in the Purdue Extension Putnam County meeting room where everyone who attends meetings and programs there can view the names of award recipients.
