Congressman Baird sends letter to President Biden and USDA, urging CFAP to resume

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Indiana District 4 Congressman Jim Baird (R-Greencastle) has written a letter to President Biden urging him and his administration to continue the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program (CFAP).

“Farmers across the country are suffering because of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Congressman Baird said. “CFAP has been a lifeline to them and their families. It has ensured the stability of our food supply and has provided food assistance to millions of families in need. Freezing the program will only have disastrous consequences.”

Last week, the USDA announced it has suspended the processing of payments and the accepting of new applications due to the Biden administration’s recent "Regulatory Freeze Pending Review" memo.

USDA announced the additional assistance for the CFAP program on Jan. 15, which expanded CFAP eligibility for some agricultural producers and commodities (primarily making contract livestock producers eligible) and updating payments to accurately compensate some producers who already applied for earlier assistance. This additional assistance builds on about $23.6 billion in payments made available through CFAP 1 and CFAP 2 earlier signups.

America's farmers and ranchers have been significantly impacted by the pandemic and the disruptions will likely ripple for years to come. The CFAP program has been tremendously valuable in helping to stabilize and support America's family farms and agricultural producers. Under the new Additional Assistance portion of the program announced earlier this month, the USDA addresses and makes eligible some of the producers hardest hit -- contract growers who reduced population.

America during WWII = Victory gardens.

America during a government-induced economic stranglehold = more government printing/spending money in a self-fulfilling prophecy of doom.

Mr. Baird, once again, you have shown yourself to be part of the problem instead of being part of the solution.

You are not a leader or a representative... you are a grifter and a hustler spending other peoples money in effort to keep being elected.

    Do the honorable thing. Resign.

  • Reinstating the CFAP wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Spectres85 - ALL nonConstitutional government spending is a bad idea from a philosophical and practical point of view.

Let's pretend you are a farmer, and you have had a bad year. So you go to the Fed-pig with hat in hand and say "I will trade you my vote for $20."

The Fed-pig says "Deal!" and gives you $20. Come November you vote for Fed-pig.

The next month Fed-pig passes a bill that promises to give $20 to your neighbor on the left.

This doesn't sit well with you b/c you have to pay for part of your neighbor's $20. So you complain to Fed-pig.

Fed-pig says "why are you complaining? I just made the same deal with your neighbor that I made with you. But I tell you what - I will give you $10 if you keep voting for me."

You say "Deal!" What Fed-pig didn't tell you is that this $30 is coming from your neighbor on your right who doesn't want any money from Fed-pig b/c he understands the Constitution and the limited powers of government.

But its now 2-1 in favor of Fed-pig staying in power and Fed-pig owns you.

You have given up liberty for security...and whether you realize it or not, you have also sold your neighbor into slavery.
