Finding Our Way

Thursday, February 11, 2021
One of 34 new wayfinding signs installed around Greencastle points the way to the Armory and Tzouanakis School from the intersection of Arlington and Franklin streets. The city is awaiting final INDOT approval on locations for signs along U.S. 231 and State Road 240. Installed by Universal Sign Systems, which has done wayfinding in other central Indiana communities, the signs are designed to highlight places like parks, trails, tourist destinations, etc. while conforming to the Uniform Manual on Traffic Control Devices. The manual provides guidance on location, letter size, typeface and other details.

  • I guess I am the naysayer here. My perspective views this as a waste of tax dollars. With GPS maps, most drivers that would need the signs have already set their maps. Drivers who live here probably know where they are going. Times have changed.

I will admit they look sharp but the reality of need doesn't meet the cost and upkeep.

But, we can enjoy the beauty of the signs. Style over substance!
