County Jail

Twelve people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Thursday

• At 1:03 a.m. Melissa S. Smith, 37, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for driving while intoxicated - refusal and possession of paraphernalia with a prior conviction.

Wednesday

• At 3:24 p.m. Seth M. Lucas, 23, Clay City, was taken into custody for official misconduct and battery resulting in bodily injury.

• At 11:54 a.m. Sigmund A. Croan, 28, Greencastle, was housed at the jail on a local warrant.

• At 2:47 a.m. Wesley P. Seger, 43, Indianapolis, was booked in for unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, carrying a handgun without a license, violation of driving conditions and possession of paraphernalia.

Tuesday

• At 10:23 p.m. Daniel W. Galloway, 50, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for possession of a controlled substance and driving while intoxicated.

• At 10:05 p.m. Naomi R. Featherston, 42, Greencastle, was taken into custody for invasion of privacy.

• At 1:46 p.m. Samuel M. Cole, 47, Cloverdale, was housed at the jail for strangulation and domestic battery.

Monday

• At 1:35 p.m. David A. Alkire, 65, Greencastle, was booked in for maintaining a common nuisance.

• At 1:06 p.m. Richard Christopher Jordan, 45, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for dissemination of matter harmful to minors and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

• At 10:35 a.m. Timothy W. Wagers, 35, Shelbyville, was taken into custody on a court order.

• At 10:13 a.m. Joshua A. Vanover, 33, Greencastle, was housed at the jail on a writ of body attachment.

• At 9:10 a.m. Joseph L. Hyland, 26, Greencastle, was booked in on a writ of body attachment.

City Police

One recent arrest was reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

• At 11 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, Daniel Ashby, 25, Cloverdale, was arrested by Officer Luke Brown.

Taken into custody after pulling into a private driveway on Gardenside Drive, Ashby was taken to the Putnam County Jail, where he is facing charges of possession of synthetic marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

Two recent traffic accidents were investigated by city officers.

• At 10 p.m. Monday, a two-vehicle mishap occurred on North Jackson Street as drivers tried to avoid a disabled vehicle in the southbound lane.

Michael Newport, 19, Roachdale, was southbound in a 2019 Ford Fusion when the vehicle in front of him abruptly hit the brakes and swerved around the stopped car.

Kathy Ames, 62, Rockville, was behind Newport in a 2018 Subaru Forester and was unable to avoid a collision, striking the Newport car in the rear.

Officer Brown estimated total damage at $1,000-$2,500.

Both drivers declined medical treatment.

• At 3:17 p.m. Saturday, a two-vehicle accident was reported on the Walmart superstore parking lot.

Officer Nick Eastham reported that Karen Shelton, 72, Greencastle, was southbound in the lot driving a 2002 Ford Focus when Heather Singleton, 40, Reelsville, began backing from a parking space and a collision occurred.

Shelton was unable to avoid the collision, which resulted in a estimated $5,000-$10,000 damage.

The Shelton car sustained damage to its entire passenger side and was listed as a total loss. Singleton’s 2010 Chevrolet Traverse sustained damage to the left-rear bumper and quarter panel, police said.

Both drivers declined medical treatment.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to one recent dispatch:

• At 9:21 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 9:26 but could not determine a cause for the alarm. They were unable to reset the alarm, but did silence it. GFD went back into service at 9:52 p.m.

Additionally, GFD recently performed three medical assists and had two disregards.
