Earl Atwell Johnston, 84, Bloomingdale, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2021.

He was born in Amo on June 14, 1936 to Earl and Mary Johnston.

Earl was a graduate of Bloomingdale High School in 1954.

After serving in the Army, stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas, Earl relocated to Villa Hills, Ky., marrying his first great love, the late Martha Lee Deglow.

Earl was employed as a lineman for 18 years at Cincinnati Gas and Electric, and serving as City Council member he was responsible for the creation of the youth athletic leagues and construction of the playing fields.

After moving to the family farm in Bloomingdale, he worked for 24 years at Parke County REMC before retiring.

Earl remarried his second great love, Nada Sharon Tucker in 1994.

Earl was passionate in his love for dogs, especially his mastiffs. He will be remembered for coaching youth sports, his great strength, love for country music, sports of all kinds, watching his western TV shows and especially for his candor and wit.

Family and friends remember the bonfires, fireworks displays, the playfulness and patience with his grandchildren.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Owen Woody; his first wife, Martha Deglow Johnston, and one granddaughter.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nada Sharon Johnston; his two brothers, John (Bekki) Johnston and Marshall (Sonnie) Johnston; his three sons, David (Angel) Johnston, William (Connie) Johnston and Michael (Lorie) Johnston; his stepchildren, Mark Tucker and Amy Dixon; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and his cherished friend, Burk Collings.

Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, at Gooch Funeral Home, 112 W. Howard St., Rockville, with Pastor Keith B. McIntyre officiating. Burial will follow at Bloomingdale Friends Cemetery in Bloomingdale. Visitation is from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at Gooch Funeral Home.
