VBL blaze scrambles multiple fire departments

VAN BIBBER LAKE — Area firefighters were dispatched to the Van Bibber Lake community Monday morning for a house fire that was a total loss.

At about 8:50 a.m., eight fire departments were called out on a box alarm to 3200 Van Bibber Lake Estates for a large fire that had engulfed the inside of the home located there.

The Clinton Township Volunteer Fire Department, Greencastle Fire Department, Bellmore Volunteer Fire Department and Walnut Creek Fire District each responded with an engine. The Russellville Volunteer Fire Department responded with two tankers, while the Bainbridge Volunteer Fire Department and Floyd Township Volunteer Fire Department responded with both a tanker and an engine. Meanwhile, the Roachdale Volunteer Fire Department provided a tanker and a rescue truck.

Putnam County EMS and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene.

Though it is not known how many gallons of water were ultimately drawn during the incident, a portable water tank was utilized.

The last unit cleared the scene at about 1:30 p.m.

The cause for the fire was unknown as of Monday evening. However, no injuries have been reported.

According to Putnam County GIS, the home is listed to Ellen Pate and Sarah Love.
