Max Dean Blackmore

Max Dean Blackmore, 84, of Coatesville, passed away Friday, March 19, 2021 at Hendrick Regional Health Hospital in Danville.

Max was born in Danville, Ind., on Dec. 10, 1936, a son of the late John M. and Mary B. (Montgomery) Blackmore.

He married the love of his life, Darlen Shillings, in October of 1956.

Max worked at Allison’s Plant 5 and retired from there after 30 years. He and his wife were antique dealers for more than 60 years, operating Darlen’s Collection Antique Store in Greencastle for their final 21 years in business.

In his free time, he always loved to hunt mushrooms and go fishing. He enjoyed traveling and loved his yearly trips with his granddaughter. He lived his life to the end, traveling various places over the last year and got to know relatively unfamiliar places.

Survivors include his children, Max L. (Anne) Blackmore, Michael D. (Sylvia) Blackmore and Matthew L. (Candy) Blackmore and grandchildren Mary Lee (Brian) Soesbee and Michael Blackmore.

Max was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Darlen; brothers, Charles Blackmore and Jim Blackmore; a granddaughter, Samantha Ann Blackmore; and daughter-in-law Sandra K. Blackmore.

Family and friends will gather Thursday, March 25 for visitation from 4-7 p.m. at Porter & St. Pierre Funeral Home, 6 S. California St., North Salem.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 26, also at the funeral home. Burial at Fairview Cemetery in North Salem will immediately follow the funeral service.
