Kenneth Ray Carpenter

Kenneth Ray Carpenter, born to Raymond and Ruth (Hart) Carpenter on July 7, 1931, passed away on March 22, 2021 at the age of 89.

He graduated from Fillmore High School in 1949 where he enjoyed being a part of the basketball team.

Soon after high school graduation, he was hired by Olin Brass in Indianapolis, and retired after 48 years of dedicated service.

From 1950 to 1954, he was a member of the U.S. Air Force where he attained the rank of staff sergeant.

On June 28, 1954, he was married to Doris Jane (Hamm) and would have celebrated 67 years together this June.

An avid gardener, he enjoyed sharing his bounty with family and friends. He loved playing softball and participated in league play for many years. He also loved playing golf.

Kenny attended Millgrove Methodist Church in Quincy.

He is survived by his wife Jane; a son, Rick of Dallas, Texas; a daughter, Micki (Gareiss) of Warsaw; a brother, Gerald (Betty Sue) of Greencastle; daughters-in-law Debbie of Seymour and Diane of Greenwood; three grandchildren, Dr. Jamie (Chris Brummett) of Richmond, Kimberly (Joe Daniely) of Indianapolis and Logan Gareiss of Warsaw; and one step-grandchild, Spencer Gareiss of Tempe, Ariz. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Eli and Will Brummett, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sons Randy and Gary and grandson Douglas.

Visitation will be held at Whitaker Funeral Home in Cloverdale from 1-4 p.m. on Friday, March 26, followed by a graveside service with full military rites at Mannon Cemetery in Quincy. Please wear masks while in attendance.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis or the Salvation Army.
