Fillmore sets clean-up day

FILLMORE — With little on its agenda Thursday evening, the Fillmore Town Council set the town’s annual clean-up day for next month.

The council agreed that the time for the clean-up would be Saturday, May 15 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. However, the most discussion was on if it could be held on another day if it rains.

Town Marshal Darrel Bunten, who has been a presence during the event, said he would be available on May 15 and June 26. The latter was proposed as the rain date. However, how soon the delivery of containers could be canceled needed to be determined.

Jack’s Trash Service has provided the containers in the past.

In other business:

• On behalf of Utilities Operator Joe Cash, Meredith Trusty announced that someone was needed to clean the ditches on Putnam Street prior to it getting repaved. No decision was made, but it was suggested that the town could ask the county to use an excavator.

Trusty said the project would tentatively get under way on June 2. However, this could change due to factors involving weather and equipment.

Joining Bunten and the council were Clerk-Treasurer Jayna Haldeman and Terry Wood of the Fillmore Community Volunteer Fire Department. Along with Cash, Town Attorney Jeff Boggess was absent.

The next regular meeting of the Fillmore Town Council is scheduled for Thursday, May 6 at 7 p.m. at the Fillmore Town Hall.
