Alyssa Chew

A North Putnam Middle School teacher is among a select group of Indiana teachers recognized for excellence in the classroom.

Seventh-grade science teacher Alyssa Chew was recently honored as a recipient of the 2021-22 Armstrong Teacher Educator Award by Indiana University-Bloomington’s School of Education.

Chew is the first Putnam County educator to earn the award.

All recipients will be invited to the campus in Bloomington to participate in panel discussions on current issues in education during the fall semester. All of this, including compensation for a substitute teacher, is reimbursed.

The award also provides financial support for the recipients to work with IU faculty and undergraduates in the classroom through early field experiences.

Chew is one of 14 teachers from schools across the state who will be part of the program’s 2021-22 cohort.

Since 1997, the awards have been funded through the Martha Lea and Bill Armstrong Fund and Cook Group companies.
