Brazil Concert Band to begin 2021 season Sunday, June 6

BRAZIL ­— The Brazil Concert Band will open its 2021 season of programs at Forest Park on June 6 and perform every Sunday, rain or shine, at 8 p.m. through Aug. 29.

The first rehearsal will be Tuesday, June 1 at 7 p.m. at the Forest Park bandshell or in the pavilion in case of rain.

Huber has led the 65 members of the Brazil Concert Band since 1982 and is the longest-serving conductor in the band’s 163 years of serving the community.

New members must be at least a freshman in high school and have self-ownership of a band instrument.

The June 6 concert will recognize the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II. This performance was scheduled as the finale for last year’s series, but was postponed due to COVID-19.

The patriotic program honoring America and its allies will include “The March from 1941” by John Williams, “Glenn Miller in Concert” arranged by Wayne Scott, “South Pacific” arranged by Philip Lang, “Victory at Sea” arranged by Robert Bennett, “Man Behind the Gun” by John Philip Sousa, “The Homefront: Musical Memories from World War II” arranged by James Christensen and “Armed Forces Salute” by Bill Moffit. Also included will be “March of the Belgian Paratroopers” edited by John Bourgeois, “French National Defile” arranged by J.S. Seredy, “Royal Air Force March Past” by Henry Davies and George Dyson, “A Slavic Farewell” edited by John Bourgeois and “The Stars and Stripes Forever” by John Philip Sousa.

The Brazil Concert Band traces its history back to 1858 and has performed throughout the United States. It has recorded professionally with two compact discs of music by “Indiana’s March King” Fred Jewell, as well as earned awards from local, state and national institutions, including the Sudler Silver Scroll from the John Philip Sousa Foundation.
