County Jail

Thirteen people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Monday

• At 4:31 a.m. Zachary A. Nichols, 22, Cloverdale, was lodged at the jail for unlawful possession of a syringe.

• At 12:55 a.m. Matthew W. Thompson, 37, Spencer, was taken into custody for invasion of privacy.

Sunday

• At 3:37 p.m. Joshua D. Hickman, 33, Coatesville, was housed at the jail for criminal trespass and resisting law enforcement.

• At 1:10 p.m. Sandra L. Huber, 24, Cloverdale, was booked in for neglect of a dependent.

Saturday

• At 1:19 a.m. David B. Albietz, 38, Indianapolis, was lodged at the jail on a warrant.

Friday

• At 6:17 p.m. Robert C. Phillips, 50, Plainfield, was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated.

• At 3:49 p.m. Jason G. Snider, 46, Greencastle, was housed at the jail on an out-of-county warrant.

• At 2:28 p.m. Jonathan E. Hyde, 39, Bainbridge, was booked in for battery, criminal mischief, resisting law enforcement, possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia.

• At 11:59 a.m. Jana L. Miller, 36, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for possession of methamphetamine.

• At 10 a.m. Tyler J. Hunter, 26, Terre Haute, was taken into custody for failure to appear.

Thursday

• At 6:48 p.m. Michael D. Bastin, 48, Roachdale, was housed at the jail for driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated with a prior conviction and leaving the scene of a property-damage crash.

• At 12:41 p.m. Steven C. Barger, 30, Terre Haute, was booked in on a local warrant.

• At 10:46 a.m. Glenn E. Simon, 52, Taylorsville, was lodged at the jail for driving with a suspended license, driving with a BAC of .08 or more and driving while intoxicated.

City Police

One recent arrest was reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

• At 6:12 p.m. Friday, Amber Bennett, 35, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Luke Brown.

Bennett was taken into custody at Center and West streets on a Putnam County warrant for failure to appear in court on an original charge of driving while suspended with a prior offense.

She was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

Sheriff’s Office

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated one recent property-damage crash.

• At 6:38 a.m. on Saturday, Willis W. Frazier, 57, Terre Haute, was westbound on U.S. 40 west of County Road 325 West in a 2020 Toyota Tacoma when he hit a deer.

Cpl. Brian Helmer estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to five recent dispatches:

• At 2:19 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to Kappa Alpha Theta on the DePauw University campus for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 2:23 and determined the alarm was due to hair care products. The alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 2:34 p.m.

• At 5:46 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to Mill Pond Health Campus for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 5:50 and determined that an alarm was activated near a nurses’ station. The alarm was reset prior to GFD’s arrival. GFD went back into service at 5:54 p.m.

• At 10:34 a.m. on Sunday, GFD responded to a fire alarm activated at the Inn at DePauw. A manager came to the fire station and notified GFD. Firefighters arrived shortly thereafter and reset the alarm. GFD went back into service at 10:42 a.m.

• At 9:05 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was to Asbury Towers for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 9:09 and found a pump in the elevator room emanating a hot smell. The alarm would not clear. GFD advised that the pump be turned off and maintenance notified. GFD went back into service at 9:24 p.m.

• At 10:28 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to the area of County Road 175 East for an odor of smoke. Firefighters saw smoke coming from under Crowe’s Bridge at 10:46. They found an individual with a campfire and advised Putnam County Dispatch. GFD went back into service at 11:03 p.m.

Additionally, GFD recently performed nine medical assists and had one disregard.
