ROCKVILLE – The recent theft of a trailer in Putnam County has led to the arrest of a Montgomery County man.

David Joseph, 46, of New Richmond, was arrested Sunday morning after stolen property was reportedly discovered on a private Parke County campground.

Joseph was lodged in the Parke County Jail at Rockville on charges of possession of stolen property. His arrest came after a call to police about a suspicious vehicle at the campground located along State Road 47.

The trailer located at the scene was recently stolen in Putnam County, authorities said.

Later, campgrounds workers located another trailer in a ravine. That trailer, along with a small steamroller, was stolen from a business north of Rockville, police said.

The Parke County Sheriff’s Department reported that the steamroller and the two stolen trailers have been returned to their owners.

Detective Capt. Doug Nally of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office told the Banner Graphic that Parke County Sheriff Justin Cole told him of the recovered trailer Monday afternoon, before it had even been reported missing in Putnam County.

However, the trailer belonged to Steve McGowan, owner of the Country Folks Greenhouse at U.S. 231 and U.S. 36.

Nally met with McGowan on Monday, reviewing surveillance footage that showed the trailer being taken at around 10:40 p.m. Saturday.

The detective also told the Banner Graphic that two other people were with Joseph on the night he was arrested, Ashley Lee and Donovan Altic.

While Lee and Altic were initially released by police, the Parke County Sheriff’s Department later found video that linked all three to the Parke County theft.

Lee and Altic were taken into custody in Pulaski County on Wednesday evening.

Once he’s had a chance to review the evidence, Nally anticipates filing theft charges against all three in Putnam County.
