County Jail

Seven people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Sunday

• At 7:41 a.m. John R. Thomas, 30, Spencer, was lodged at the jail for driving with a suspended license with a prior conviction.

• At 7:38 a.m. Rosario R. Vela Jr., 42, Indianapolis, was taken into custody for nonsupport of a dependent child.

• At 2:35 a.m. Christopher P. Stapert, 34, Terre Haute, was housed at the jail for driving while intoxicated endangering a person.

• At 1:55 a.m. Danna J. Lowder, 54, Brazil, was booked in for possession of cocaine, possession of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana.

Saturday

• At 10:50 p.m. Peyten A. Emmons, 26, Speedway, was lodged at the jail for driving a motorboat with a BAC of .08 or more.

Friday

• At 7:57 p.m. Eric D. Turnbloom, 43, Bainbridge, was taken into custody for criminal mischief and criminal recklessness.

Thursday

• At 6:50 p.m. Jeffrey S. Gardner, 53, Bainbridge, was booked in for criminal trespass.

City Police

Three recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

• At 2:11 p.m. Friday, Elizabeth Schick, 28, Reelsville, was arrested by Officer Zach Rhine.

Taken into custody at a Roan Court residence, Schick was arrested on a Tippecanoe County warrant for failure to appear in court. She was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

Also arrested at the same time and place by Officer Rhine was Austin McAuley, 29, Indianapolis. He was lodged in the Putnam County Jail for invasion of privacy.

• At 2:40 a.m. Friday, Belissa O’Conner, 37, Greencastle, was arrested by Officer Jared McDaniel.

Taken into custody at the Marathon station on Indianapolis Road, O’Conner was arrested on a Putnam County warrant for maintaining a common nuisance, possession of a controlled substance and dealing in a Schedule I controlled substance. She was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

Three recent property-damage accidents were investigated by city officers.

• At 5:54 p.m. May 17, a two-car mishap was reported on Indianapolis Road.

Capt. Charles Inman reported that a 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier, driven by Kelly Peters, 59, Greencastle, and a 2021 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by Morgan Mason, 23, Greencastle, collided at the stoplight in front of the Kroger entrance as Peters turned right to go west from the Kroger lot and Mason turned out of Jimmy Johns and a collision occurred.

Total damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 2:03 p.m. May 17, a two-vehicle accident occurred on Indianapolis Road in front of the Tokyo Steakhouse restaurant as Lacey Crawford, 28, Greencastle, exited the parking lot and her 2005 Mercury Mariner reportedly struck a westbound 2019 Chevrolet truck, driven by Colt Gardner, 32, Greencastle.

Officer Rhine estimated total damage at $1,000-$2,500.

• At 11:20 a.m. May 17, a two-vehicle mishap was reported on Indiana Street just north of Washington Street.

Carl Singer, 80, Greencastle, was stopped at the stoplight, waiting to go south on Indiana Street when his 2000 Chevrolet Impala was struck in the rear quarterpanel by a 2010 Dodge Ram, which Brian Smith, 67, Bainbridge, was backing from a parking space. Smith said he did not see the Singer car as he was backing the Putnam County-owned truck, which sustained only a small dent to the driver’s side rear bumper.

Total damage was listed at $1,000-$2,500.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to eight recent dispatches:

• GFD was dispatched two consecutive times to Delta Tau Delta on DePauw University’s campus early Friday morning:

— At 1:37 a.m., GFD was dispatched for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 1:42 and determined that an individual had entered the fraternity, pulled the alarm and then left. The alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 1:51 a.m.

— At 3:26 a.m., GFD was dispatched again for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 3:31 and determined that a firework had been thrown through a window. There was no fire and the alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 3:44 a.m.

• At 4:55 a.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to Alpha Tau Omega on the DePauw campus for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 5:01 a.m. and determined the alarm was due to burnt popcorn. The alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 5:09 a.m.

• At 2:49 a.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries at the intersection of County Road 25 East and County Road 200 North. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 3 a.m. and assisted with patient care. GFD went back into service at 4:07 a.m.

• At 9:57 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was alerted to power lines down at 359 S. CR 300 West. Firefighters arrived at 10:03 a.m. and found a tree had fallen on the lines causing them to burn and break. Parke County REMC arrived and cut the power while GFD cut up the tree. GFD went back into service at 11 a.m.

• At 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to the apartments at 330 Greenwood Ave. for an elevator entrapment. Firefighters arrived at 7:33 and freed two people from the elevator. Maintenance was contacted and GFD went back into service at 8:02 p.m.

• At 12:04 a.m. on Sunday, GFD received a call for a small untended fire at 613 Howard St. Firefighters arrived at 12:07 and put out the fire. GFD went back into service at 12:21 a.m.

• At 7:47 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to 96 Ridgeland Rd. for an odor investigation. Firefighters arrived at 7:53 and monitored the property. No source for an odor was found, and GFD went back into service at 8:04 p.m.

Additionally, GFD recently performed nine medical assists and had one disregard.
