A 14-year-old was transported to Riley Hospital after the scooter on which he was riding was hit at low speed by a pickup Tuesday afternoon.

The teen’s injuries are not believed to be serious.

Shortly after 4 p.m., Nathaniel Corrie of Greencastle was attempting to turn northbound onto Bloomington Street from eastbound Apple Street.

At the same time, the juvenile was trying to cross Bloomington Street from east to west at Tennessee Street, which is just to the north of Apple Street.

Sgt. Ed Wilson reported that both Corrie and the juvenile were waiting for traffic on the busy street to clear and did not notice the other vehicle waiting.

As Corrie made his turn, he noticed the teen too late to avoid contact. The impact knocked the young man from the vehicle, causing a slight head injury, arm injury and scratches on his back.

Officers were dispatched at 4:04 p.m. and arrived two minutes later to find the youth injured but alert.

Putnam County EMS transported the teen to Indianapolis. Also assisting at the scene were the Greencastle Fire Department and Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.

  • There are quite a few teens who ride across that area daily. Maybe part of the park improvements should include a safer crossing for the south side children.
