County Jail

Eight people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Thursday

• At 1:21 a.m. Coty A. Gray, 26, Indianapolis, was booked in on a local warrant for theft.

Wednesday

• At 2:13 p.m. Samantha J. Johnson, 22, Terre Haute, was lodged at the jail for disorderly conduct.

• At 11:46 a.m. Daniel J. Doerflein, 32, Poland, was taken into custody on a court order.

Tuesday

• At 3:58 p.m. Harry R. Frazier, 43, Brazil, was housed at the jail for driving while intoxicated.

• At 1:06 p.m. Brian K. Graham, Indianapolis, was booked in for possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a syringe.

Monday

• At 8:01 p.m. Crystal M. Taylor, 38, Cloverdale, was lodged at the jail for neglect of a dependent and cruelty to an animal.

• At 5:09 p.m. Jarrod J. Reiber, 24, Centerpoint, was housed at the jail on a court order.

• At 2:45 p.m. Dennis W. Williams, 71, Jamestown, was housed at the jail for driving with a suspended license.

City Police

One recent arrest was reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

• At 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sandra R. Sanchez, 33, Greencastle, was arrested by Sgt. Ed Wilson at the Kroger store on Indianapolis Road.

Charged with theft and criminal trespass, Sanchez was booked into the Putnam County Jail.

Sanchez, who had been banned from the Kroger store back in April, allegedly took $31.57 in juices and energy and granola bars.

Sanchez reportedly had four Kroger energy bars in her pockets when searched by Sgt. Wilson. Five more bars were discovered in her undergarments at the jail.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to six recent dispatches:

• At 12:09 a.m. last Saturday, GFD was dispatched to the DePauw University Athletic Center for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 12:13 and found no cause for the alarm. The alarm could not be reset, so DePauw police advised that maintenance would be called. GFD went back into service at 12:20 a.m.

• At 7:43 a.m. last Saturday, GFD was dispatched for a reported pedestrian hit on Windemere Drive. Firefighters arrived at 7:48 and performed patient care. GFD went back into service at 8:02 a.m.

• At 4:53 p.m. last Sunday, GFD was dispatched to Autumn Glen for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 4:57 and determined the alarm was due to a dirty detector head. The detector head was cleaned and the alarm was reset. GFD went back into service at 5:16 p.m.

• At 9:03 p.m. last Sunday, GFD was dispatched to International Automotive Components for a reported fire at a nearby substation. Firefighters arrived at 9:09 and found that vegetation near the building was on fire. The fire was extinguished. GFD went back into service at 9:22 p.m.

• At 4:25 p.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to Northview Apartments for a smoke incident. Firefighters arrived at 4:28 and determined that a belt in a dryer had slipped and caused the smoke. GFD went back into service at 4:41 p.m.

• At 10:59 a.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses for a gas leak. Firefighters arrived at 11:05 a.m. and were advised that an excavator had hit a gas line. The immediate area was evacuated and then monitored. The gas line was then secured, and GFD went back into service at 12:31 p.m.

Additionally, GFD recently performed 15 medical assists and had three disregards.
