REELSVILLE — A motorcyclist suffered serious injuries in a crash that occurred in Reelsville Friday evening.

At about 8:45 p.m., first responders were toned out after the Reelsville Volunteer Fire Department received a call for a motorcycle accident near the firehouse at the intersection of County Road 675 South and 650 West.

A firefighter then found the motorcycle laying in the roadway. A male was found walking around, while a woman was also on the ground.

The firefighter then requested that RVFD be toned out along with a medic.

The female passenger, Amber Orchard, 39, of Loogootee, suffered lacerations to the back of her head as well as road rash. Meanwhile, the male driver, David Scank, 42, of Terre Haute, sustained a small cut to his head.

A LifeLine helicopter was called out to the scene and landed in the Reelsville Community Center parking lot. Orchard was then flown to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis where she is in intensive care.

Jon McPherson of RVFD told the Banner Graphic Saturday morning it was determined that they were not familiar with the area and lost control of the motorcycle.

Scank refused treatment, signed a statement of release and drove the motorcycle from the scene.

Putnam County EMS and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene. The crash was investigated by Deputy Hunter Gambill.
