New PCPL assistant director wants to meet community

The Putnam County Public Library has a new supporting role. Fulfilling this role will be someone coming in with experience in youth outreach.

The library’s board of trustees approved hiring Jane Hazelton as the library’s new assistant director during its regular meeting last week.

Hazelton will be taking over duties from Lisa Barker, who is stepping away from her role as PCPL’s business operations manager as well as the board’s treasurer.

A New York native who came to Indiana when her husband David made a job change, Hazelton earned her master’s degree in library science from Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis in 2016. She has worked in youth services at the Danville Public Library for the past 15 years and served as manager of that department for eight of those.

Though her career is rooted in youth outreach, Hazelton was interested in the position because she wanted more of a leadership role. This was also an opportunity to learn more about running a library as a whole.

Still residing in Danville, Hazelton’s focus now is getting to know the community and the library’s patrons.

“I’m excited to be here, and I’m looking forward to this position and serving the needs of the community here,” Hazelton said.
