Annual Touch-A-Truck fundraiser returns Saturday

Monday, July 5, 2021

Following cancellations of the event in 2019 and 2020, the annual Friends of the Library Touch-A-Truck event will return on Saturday, July 10.

The event, which is the main fundraiser for Imagination Library, is set for 9 a.m.-noon in the Greencastle High School parking, 910 E. Washington St.

There will be a variety of trucks and other vehicles on hand to pique the interest of children and adults alike. Service vehicles, farm and construction equipment, emergency responders and race cars are only some of the vehicles that will be available to explore.

The event will also include games, crafts and activities for families and children.

Ticket are $5 each and $15 for a family of four.

Currently, nearly 700 children are enrolled in Imagination Library in Putnam County, a program that mails one book to each child enrolled from birth to age five.

While more than 85,000 books have been mailed to Putnam County kids since the program’s start in 2011, the organization announced a pause last year, as weather and then COVID-19 restrictions led to the cancellation of Touch-A-Truck for two consecutive years.

Earlier this year, Friends of the Putnam County Library received a $25,000 grant from the United Way of Putnam County to help reactivate the local membership in Imagination Library’s national chapter.

Funds raised at Touch-A-Truck will help ensure that those books continue to arrive for Putnam County kids each month.

Since its inception in 1995, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library has, to date, sent out more than 150 million free, high-quality books around the world to children regardless of their family’s income.
